The materials chosen for COCOU’s collections are carefully selected for their quality and sustainability.

Our swimwear is crafted using ECONYL®, a regenerated nylon made from ocean plastic and discarded fishing nets, reducing waste and supporting ocean cleanups.

Our graphic shirts are produced with 100% organic cotton, free from harmful pesticides, ensuring soil health and safer working conditions for farmers.

The sarongs are made from high-quality rayon, prized for its soft, flowing texture, hand-dyed using plant-based dyes.

Each material is chosen not only for comfort and style but also to reduce our environmental impact compared to conventional synthetic fabrics or non-organic cotton.

COCOU is committed to European-based production wherever possible, ensuring both quality and fair labor standards. Our swimwear fabrics, including ECONYL®, are produced in Italy, a leader in sustainable textile innovation. The organic cotton used for our shirts is sourced from certified suppliers, though the final graphic printing and production occur in Germany, in partnership with our print-on-demand partner Shirtee. Our rayon sarongs are made from carefully sourced fabric, with dyeing and finishing taking place under the guidance of our artist Theresa Bader in Italy. By choosing European production, we ensure strict labor regulations and reduce the transportation footprint compared to offshore manufacturing.

Our sarongs are hand-dyed using natural plant-based dyes sourced from LIVOS, a German company specializing in eco-friendly pigments. These dyes, such as Anthracite, Krapp-Apricot, Lac-Red, and Oliv-Green, are extracted from plants and insects, offering rich, earthy tones without synthetic chemicals. Natural dyes are not only biodegradable but also safer for both the environment and the artisans handling them, though they may fade more naturally over time—a characteristic we embrace as part of their organic charm.

COCOU collaborates with partners who align with our values of fair wages, safe working environments, and eco-conscious production. Our swimwear and shirts are produced with the help of Shirtee, a German company known for their print-on-demand service, reducing overproduction and textile waste. Shirtee operates under EU labor regulations, ensuring fair wages and safe working conditions for their employees.

Our sarongs are crafted in close partnership with Theresa Bader, a textile artist based in Italy, who hand-dyes each piece using natural pigments. By working with local artisans and trusted European partners, we ensure that every step of production upholds both quality and ethical standards.

COCOU conscious couture is proud to collaborate with independent artists whose creativity breathes life into our designs. Each piece is not only a garment but a canvas that tells the story of the people behind it. Among our key collaborators are Rebelglimpse, an artist deeply connected to nature and simple living, known for his raw, emotion-driven work; die Mücke (Marius Schölch), a graphic designer and tattoo artist whose love for surfing and free-spirited creativity translates into his bold illustrations; and Terry (Theresa Bader), a natural dye specialist working with plants and local wool, bringing her deep respect for nature into every fabric she touches. At COCOU, we strive to make our supply chain as transparent as possible, offering our customers a clear view of how each piece is made. Our swimwear begins in Italy, where ECONYL® regenerated nylon is produced. The fabric is then sent to a small, female owned European manufacturing facility, where it is cut, sewn, and assembled.

Our organic cotton shirts are sourced from certified suppliers, printed and produced by Shirtee in Germany.

The rayon fabric for our sarongs is sourced carefully from overseas, with the dyeing process carried out by Terry in Italy, using LIVOS natural dyes from Germany.

Finished products are packaged and shipped from Germany, ensuring that the entire process remains within Europe to reduce unnecessary transport emissions. Each step is closely monitored to ensure quality and ethical practices.

We understand that sustainability extends beyond the product itself, which is why COCOU is dedicated to reducing packaging waste. All orders are shipped using plastic-free packaging, including recyclable paper wrapping and biodegradable materials wherever possible. Our warehouse and production partner Shirtee also follows eco-conscious packaging practices, minimizing excess packaging and eliminating plastic where feasible. We ship primarily within Europe, keeping transportation distances shorter and lowering emissions compared to global shipping routes.

While we are still exploring carbon offset programs, we prioritize efficient logistics partners who share our sustainability goals, ensuring that each order reaches our customers with as little environmental impact as possible.

We believe that honesty is key when discussing sustainability, and while COCOU is proud of the steps we’ve taken, we acknowledge that fashion always leaves an environmental footprint. So we advise you to make sure that you really love the pieces you buy and will use them until their end of life cycle.

Our use of ECONYL® regenerated nylon reduces plastic waste, and natural plant-based dyes for our sarongs lower chemical pollution. However, rayon production can still require water and energy, and shipping, even within Europe, contributes to CO₂ emissions.

We are continuously seeking ways to reduce our carbon footprint, such as small-batch production to prevent waste, plastic-free packaging, and designing reversible and multi-wear pieces that encourage slower consumption. Sustainability is a journey, and we are committed to improving every step while being transparent about the realities we face.
