Crafting COCOU: Inside Our Swimwear Atelier in Italy

Behind every COCOU bikini, there’s a story of craftsmanship, passion, and ethical small-batch production. While many brands turn to mass manufacturing, COCOU takes a different approach—one rooted in exclusive collections , sustainability, and human connection.

At the heart of this process is a small, female-led atelier near Naples in Italy. This is where every COCOU bikini comes to life, stitched with precision and care by three skilled women who have spent years perfecting their craft.

A Workshop Built on Skill and Care

What makes this atelier special isn’t just its high-quality standards—it’s the people behind it. When I first discovered this small workshop, I knew it was the perfect place for COCOU. It’s female-owned, run by a tight-knit team of women who are experts in swimwear production. They work in a familiar, welcoming environment, where attention to detail and craftsmanship are at the core of everything they do.

Unlike mass production factories, this atelier allows for ethical small-batch production, meaning each piece is made with care rather than speed. And while it may be a small team, they work with professional industry machines, ensuring every bikini meets the highest durability and quality standards.

Ethical, Fair, and Transparent Production

One of the most important aspects of COCOU’s production is ensuring fair wages and ethical working conditions. Since the atelier is based in Italy, all workers are protected by EU labor laws, which guarantee fair wages and safe workplaces. But I didn’t just take that for granted—I spent nearly two months in Napels, personally visiting the atelier, getting to know the women who bring my designs to life, and ensuring that COCOU’s values were upheld.

Bringing My Designs to Life

COCOU bikinis start with my own hands—I personally create every sketch, pattern, and sample before production begins. Once everything is finalized, I send the tech packs, measurements, and digital patterns to the atelier. From there, the team carefully follows my designs, ensuring every detail is just right.

While the atelier also has its own bikini line, I made sure that only sustainable materials (such as ECONYL®) were used for COCOU. I personally sourced and delivered all the fabrics and trims, ensuring that every piece was produced with the highest ethical and environmental standards.

The Moment It Became Real

Seeing my bikinis being made for the first time was an incredible moment. Watching the colors come together, the patterns take shape, and the finishing touches being added—it was a realization of everything I had worked for. I was proud of myself, thrilled that COCOU was finally coming to life and couldn’t wait until I would be able to wear the bikinis myself.

One of my favorite memories was trying on the final samples in the atelier. The entire team gathered around, carefully analyzing the fit, discussing the smallest adjustments, and making sure every detail was perfect. It was a moment that made me feel truly valued, like I was surrounded by people who genuinely cared about my designs.

A Different Kind of Swimwear Production

Fast fashion has made detached, impersonal manufacturing the norm—but COCOU is the opposite of that. Every piece is made by real women, professionals in their crafts(wo)manship, in a real workshop, with real attention to detail. The bikinis are not just another product on an assembly line—they are part of a story, one that values craftsmanship, sustainability, and ethical fashion.

This is why I chose this atelier in Salerno, Italy—because ethical small-batch production matters. And every time you wear a COCOU bikini, you’re wearing something that was made with love, made with knowledge, made with care, made fairly, and made to last.

Thank you for choosing ethical small-batch production
