The journey of ECONYL® regenerated nylon begins with rescue. Waste materials like discarded fishing nets, fabric scraps, industrial plastic, and old carpets are collected across the globe. By retrieving this waste, ECONYL® prevents environmental pollution and reduces the devastating impact of nylon waste on our planet.

What makes ECONYL® regeneration system unique is its ability to regenerate nylon waste back to its original state. Through an advanced purification and depolymerization process, the recovered nylon is broken down and restored to the same quality as standard nylon. This means it performs just as well as traditional nylon but requires no new petroleum extraction, significantly lowering its carbon footprint and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

Once regenerated, the pure ECONYL® nylon is transformed into yarns and polymers, ready to be crafted into high-quality fabrics and products. This material is widely used in the fashion industry, especially for swimwear, activewear, outerwear, accessories and luxury products, as well as in interior design for carpets and furniture. At COCOU, fabrics made with ECONYL® regenerated yarn forms the foundation of our swimwear line, chosen not only for its performance—offering stretch, durability, and comfort—but also for its lower environmental impact compared to fossil-based nylon.

ECONYL® nylon is also infinitely recyclable. This means that at the end of its use, as a single material, ECONYL® regenerated nylon can be recollected and regenerated into brand-new nylon, again and again.

While at the moment it is not possible to recycle swimwear or activewear garments, since ECONYL® yarn is mixed with elastane, ECONYL® is currently working on the recycling process of post-consumer textile.

Beyond reducing plastic pollution, ECONYL® regenerated nylon helps alleviate climate change by foregoing the harmful environmental impacts associated with traditional oil-based nylon production. For every 10,000 tons of ECONYL® raw material, 70,000 barrels of crude oil are saved. By eliminating the need for new raw materials, ECONYL® helps conserve natural resources while lowering greenhouse gas emissions—a critical step in combating climate change within the fashion industry.
